Recent Contact Requests For Mac Repairs in London

1) I have an iBook G4 1Ghz bought in 2004. It has been working fine for some years, no problems. Recently my iBook freezes after about 15 mins to 60 mins use. I can still move the cursor across the screen, but cannot open any apps or select any items. This can happen when I working with any apps. I have to hold down the power button to restart the iBook.  Just found Mac Repairs London, I’ve done some research on the Internet, and the mac forums suggest a logic board problem. I was wondering if this is a repairable item and if so, could you give me a quotation on the work.

2)  I have 12″ powerbook G4 laptop which I’ve had for quite a long time. I’ts needing to constantly keep it on charge in order for it to stay on for a couple of years. Recently the inner part of the power cable socket on the side of the laptop has started to move around. I’ve noticed the metal ring around the male part of any new charger I attempt to put in the socket bends out of shape. This means it does not attach together snugly and I can no longer charge up the laptop. Can the inner part be be replaced? or is it finally gone kapput? I hope this makes sense!

3) Hi Mac Repairs London, System cooling fan connector damaged, and fan connector on PCB dislodged.
Are you able to re-solder connector to PCB & replace system fan with new one? Or would you need to replace PCB?
Believe it is a 2009 Macbook, Model No: A1342 Also any possible rough quote would be great.
Will be in Guildford Tomorrow (31/05/2010) Need to ideally have the work done in a day.
Do live in Portsmouth, and work in Southampton, so not sure where your best branch would be to get this too? I also have a Mac mini.

4) I’ve got a 3 year old Intel based imac (2.16 GHzCore 2 Duo) with OS 10.4.11. Ive just bought an ipad but then found than I need at least OS 10.5. Ideally I’d like to upgrade to 10.6 if I need to upgrade anyway I’d appreciate any advice or if possible a quote to get this done.

5) My daughter has a cd stuck in the drive of her ibook G4. We have tried everything the apple store suggested to get it out. Can you give me an idea of what it will cost to get the cd out as apple have said the only way of getting it out is to have a brand new drive fitted.

6) Hey guys at Mac Repairs London ! So last night I hit the power button on my macbook pro (jan 2010 model) and it powered up, i got the welcome chime and it went to the white screen with the apple logo and the loader wheel, but thats all it’ll do. it wont advance past that screen no matter how long you leave it. it also will not run in safe mode, or respond to anything else I have tried by searching the forums. I am in sheffield (S24EQ) and could do with dropping it off with you to have a look if you have a sheffield store? Hope to hear from you soon, many thanks.

7) The power supply cord has broken. It isn’t the power pack, or the magnetic connector but the little bit of plastic that connects the wire to the magnetic connector. It’s come completely off, taking about 1 cm of the soft plastic wire protector with it, and the wire inside now needs to be wiggled about a lot before it can work. A quote would be much appreciated asap because I’ve just started uni so need to know if i can save money by just getting it fixed rather than buying another one (for fifty quid!).

8) I think my Macbook hard drive has corrupted. I have tried re-formatting and re-installing it but it doesn’t recognize that there is a hard drive in it. I wondered how much it would be to come and get this repaired?

9) i have spilled tea over my macbook, i am lucky that everything is working however there are keys in the keyboard that are not working there are 5 keys – 4, R , F , V , and ] . when i press these buttons they either dont work or they type something else. is there anyway i can fix this problem myself or is there an alternative, thank you Mac Repairs London for any advice in advance.  i have been searching the internet looking for solutions and one of the solution to fix this problem is to change the keyboard. i would like to know how much it would cost to replace the keyboard or to get it fixed. thank you.

10) My screen has started playing up. It would flicker, then go blank, then come back again. But now it has died completely. There is still light, when I lower the contrast it goes to a darker black than when on full, so the mac is still operating but there is no screen. Occasionally it comes back on again but only for a few minutes usually. With the fact it occasionally comes back on again I’m quite bemused, it can’t be something that has completely broken if it comes back again now and then. It’s a MacBook pro early 2008 model. I’m wondering if you a) know this specific problem already and b) whether you think it’s an expensive problem! & how tough it could be to fix. I’m away currently but back Friday if I could look at sorting it on Friday.

11. I’ve got a mac formatted external hard drive that used to run fine with my macbook (running OSX 10.6.4) which when i plug in no gives me the message “the disk inserted was not readable by this computer” – and gives the options “initialize” “ignore” and “eject” – if i try and repir the disk using disk utility it says i can’t. I desperately need to access the information on this hard drive – is the drive either fixable or at least the data recoverable? is this something you deal with? and can you give me an estimate of how much it will cost mw with Mac Repairs London.

12. Hi,there is a big problem with my MacBook pro as it can’t be switched on.I think I have broken two lines linked to mainboard. One of them is linked to battery and another is for keyboard, Bluetooth and wifi. I don’t know is this fixable. Would you give me a call?

13. I have a rather new 13in macbook pro.A few weeks ago a friend of a friend rather inconsiderately spilt a quarter of a bottle of whisky over the keyboard.I am travelling through europe at the moment, so I took it into a techie in Berlin and he diagnosed the problem as a damaged keyboard and power button. The service person in Berlin was not able to get the part in time to repair it for me.It works fine with an external keyboard once it is powered up though.  Any way, I am after a quote (cost and time) for your company to repair my unfortunate macbook. I arrive in Edinburgh on thursday afternoon, undecided on how long I am staying but at least until monday from the look of things.

14. I have managed to water damage my beloved Power Mac! After trying it out it will not turn on. It charges the battery but no life. Could you give ma a rough estimate of the cost of repair, or at least the price of you to inspect it and quote me, please.

15.Hi, Mac Repairs London team! The computer was often it was having difficulty rendering the images on the screen. The best way to fix the problem was restarting.  The desktop would get jumbled up, as in if you opened up a file, it wouldn’t show it, or maybe even show just a part of it. Icons would change to other icons (Excel to Quark), or into a bunch of lines on the screen. I have attached a screen shot that will hopefully explain what I mean.

16. Recently my Mac Pro has been shutting down at random, and sometimes won’t start up at all. I’ve tried everything I know. Here’s a list of what I’ve done so far:  Reset NVRAM & SMC Used disk utility to repair permissions and disk
Ran hardware tests with TechTools 5 and ran some disk repairs. (It claimed hardware was fine)
I thought this would solve the problem but apparently not! I was just about to reinstall my OSX but my startup disk won’t mount anymore! I have just ordered an external to backup my startup disk so I can wipe it and reinitialise it.
If I still have problems after that I would like to arrange for it to be looked at which would be sometime next week, so I wanted to know if it was better for me to book it in now just incase, or to just take it in if my problems persist.

17. I need assistance with my macbook please mac repairs london! I have dropped the computer and the screen has broken away from the keyboard leaving the laptop in two pieces. I am interested in the costs involved with repair and if would be cheaper to buy a new one.

18. When I switch my Macbook on it appears to start up the start up noise and fan sound as though its booting but the screen remains blank. It was working fine the day before but the fan has been making loud noises for sometime. Could this be repaired? I am student with limited income and really need this to be repaired ASAP could you please help? Thank you for your time.

19 . I have a kaputt mac emac (has happened before) – but more importantly I would like help setting up a PC in my home study, with the option of retrieving all the documents and files from an old imac and the defunct emac. I would also like to continue using my apple notebook wirelessly. It’s a Victoria house and we use virgin media broadband but don’t know whether the modem and wireless system we’ve got is the best. I’ve left a message on the answerphone for the engineer. The date I could be at home to have a visit is Thursday 28th October – and I would really appreciate a visit then. We’ve had a big house changeover and need a fresh look at how we organise things. I use apple for personal preference (always have and will continue to use a mac notebook) but one aspect of my work now needs a PC set up.) Hope that makes sense.

20. Hi guys at, I have a 12-inch Apple Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz. After starting it last week it is stuck on the gray screen with spinning logo. I’ve tried booting it in safe mode, and resetting the NVRAM/PRAM, but to no avail. I would try booting it from the disc, but the disc drive locked shut some time ago, and I’ve put off getting it fixed!

21. I have a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz and the internal OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A is having trouble reading any discs I put in it, It generally makes a lot of noise and just spits them out. On occasion it reads one but is noisy with it. I was wondering if this sound like i need to have the drive replaced and how much that generally cost? I got the mac late 2007 so its out of its warranty period.

22. I recently bought a Powerbook G4 (15″ Aluminum 1.6GHz A1138) for my son on eBay. After some initial problems with Safari crashing it eventually would not boot up properly (going no further than gray screen with Apple logo and spinning gear). I tried to do a disc repair at this stage using my laptop in target mode, but disc utility could not repair it and the drive did not show up on my laptop’s desktop as an external drive (although target mode worked). So, we took it to a repair shop in London over the Xmas holidays and they got an OS X 10.5 install DVD stuck inside and reported no power at all. I have managed to get the DVD out, but there is still no power, not even a light on the power supply (which definitely works),so no hope of starting up. I have tried re-setting the PMU and before no power I reset the PRAM & VRAM. Can you help?

23. I have a MacBook Pro 15″ (late 2007) which I think is a 2.2GHz dual core. I suspect the LCD display driver board’s developed a fault. When OSX (10.6) boots, only the initial grey screen appears, then the LCD display powers off (though the rest of the laptop is still powered up). Something similar happens when I attempt to boot to Windows XP, except that the initial splash screen has blue lines across it too. As soon as the OS switches to a higher resolution, from the low res splash screen, the LCD display dies. Is this something you may be able to assist with?

24. I have a Mac set up with 8TB Drobo drive. Despite usual housekeeping – Disk Utility to repair permissions – the Mac is running slow. Mostly appears around the Finder – Spotlight seems to really slow things up. I need someone who knows macs well to look at what the machine is actually doing when it hangs. Would prefer a home visit – we are a business btw.

25. Hi Mac Repair London, I’ve had my Macbook about 4 years. Its optical drive’s been playing up for around two years and discs get stuck. I could get around this by dragging them out with an old train ticket but a couple of months ago the drive stopped being able to read discs at all.

26. Hi, just spilt tea next to my laptop, some of the liquid got into the side of the macbook. Seems to be working ok, though its had a few episodes of blue screen flicker. I turned the mac on its side initially, and then turned the laptop off putting a hair dryer on it for a few minutes. Can you please give me some advice what I should do. I have left it off, just incase.

27. My Quad Core Mac Pro won’t start. at first it only showed the grey screen and didn’t progress any further. Now though, no signal is sent to my monitor. No image at all. I have checked my internal hard drive separately to see if that was the problem but it isn’t, shows up fine connected to another computer. Not sure where to go from here, came across your site looking online. Please call and advise what the process is to fixing my mac. Many thanks Mac Repairs London, Barry.

28. I  have a 17″ G4 iMac which I bought in 2003. (The one with half pod and moveable screen). It still works fine, but I would like to upgrade the internal RAM and HD. I have upgrade the accessible RAM but want to find out how to upgrade the internal elements. Also the optical CD/DVD drive does not work properly so needs to be replaced.

29. Macbook shows an blank screen with a flashing folder with a question mark in when i turn it on. I’ve inserted the install disc that came with the computer and it’s now frozen on the start up grey screen with the apple and grey twirling ball underneath.can this be fixed?

30.  I saw your website and am wondering if you can help. I have a Macbook where the headphone jack has come off inside the headphone socket. I’ve tried to tweeze it out but have had no luck, I’ve also looked on the Mac forums and have seen people suggesting getting some super glue and sticking paperclip, tooth picks to the jack, waiting for it to dry, and trying to pull it out that way but again have not had any luck. Therefore, I’m wondering if you have the tools to get inside the mac to get direct access to it to remove it? I have seen some say that it requires a complete mother board as the jack is connected to it but I’m not interested in that, Mac repair london, I just want the jack removed so I have sound back. Can you help? If so, what would your quote be?I’d really like to get the optical drive repaired or replaced. Also, if possible I’d like to get the plastic around the screen and keyboard replaced as it’s become chipped over the years, which makes it look a bit of a mess.

31. My macbook pro 13 just stopped working, cannot get it started. Prior to the problem My battery started to go suddenly and I could not charge it quickly enough (it was charging but it took whole night to charge it) Once i run out of battery I could not start it. as macbook is just over 18 month old I rung the company I bought it from and they say that according to Consumer act they will consider my warranty, but I need independent quote from authorised apple repair centre. How much would it be to have a look at the macbook and to do the written quote of problem?

32. ARRRGHHH!!!  Help Mac Repair London I have just moved over to London with my life on my lap top… I turn it on one day and all i have is a blinking folder with the ? on it – i googled this and find that my Harddrive has gone?! HELP? It is not a young Mac – i think i bought it about 4 years ago from New Zealand, and i imagine that it is just out of warrenty… of course it would be!! I am fully aware that buying a new computer will be the option – but if there is anything you can recommend or can help with retireving any of the data that would be much appriciated.

33. I have this 20″ A1076 that requires the PSU to be repaired. Possibly the caps need replaced but I don’t have the knowledge/testing equipment to repair this myself so how much to repair this non working PSU to working condition for me?This was working but computer was shutting down sometimes after 15-30 mins but as time went on it was shutting down straight after boot. Attempted repair resulted in one of the capacitors exploding as I accidentally touched the multi meter onto the capacitor and reversed the polarity as something caught my eye, the capacitor went bang and I gave up after that. The resulting residue was isolated to round this one cap only.I am thinking is possibly capacitor needs replaced and internel fuse also, as I don’t have the schematics I don’t know which fuse to use and can’t find the right caps so time to pay someone to fix this so I hear about mac repairs london and here I am,After the bang it never powered on at all and know is nothing to do with the G5 itself as working fine, just needs PSU repaired/replaced.

34. Hi, my macbook pro 15″ V4.1 (2008) crashed 3 days ago. I managed to get it working again through a combination of resetting the PRAM, taking out the battery and booting it in safe mode, but since then it continues to crash after 10 mins to 2 hours of continuous use, accompanied by glitches in the display (lines and colours) as well as a flickering monitor and Kernel Panics. I thought this might be an overheating issue, but upon downloading a programme that helps regulate the temperature, problems continued. I am now almost certain it’s a hardware issue that is beyond my fixing capabilities. Cheers in advance.

.

35. I  have an iphone 3gs, its is jailbroken. I was deleting some standard apps ( ie stock + weather apps) using ifunbox. Ive accidentally deleted the dialer and didnt notice until id rebooted. Ive tried settings/general/reset /resets etc and no luck, i think the file is completely gone. Theres no phone icon on the dock- i can still receive calls etc just not call out.
