When Apple released the iPod in 2001, they changed the face of the MP3 market forever. Although they were still new devices, the iPod changed the way that MP3 players were viewed. Apple gained significant control of the MP3 player market, and has been on the cusp of innovation for the past nine years. This has held true for all products that Apple has introduced over the past decade. The iPhone changed the way people used their cell phones, and the recently released iPad was a radical redesign at a casual tablet based computer.

From iPhone’s to MacBook’s there are many different things that Apple could potentially improve upon and continue to be a leader amongst computers, phones, and handheld devices. One new area that Apple can focus on is the growing iPhone market. By having the iOS running on many iPhone devices, Apple can create a network that users can access their data no matter where they are. Although Apple offers the Mobile.Me service, there are still many advances that can be made in the field. This technology is known as cloud computing, and there are many exciting uses for cloud computing.

One new product that Apple could offer is a brand new operating system. Instead of storing the operating system on a laptop or phone, Apple could store the operating system on a server, and have users log-in to access their individual operating system. This would allow users to take their system with them no matter where they are. As long as there is an Internet connection a user will be able to use any device like it is their own. Since many phones are offered with a data package, a person could take their phone on a flight and work from the plane, and then return working to another computer, all without missing an assignment.

The iPhone has the ability to locate a user anywhere, thanks to a built in GPS device. Between the GPS enabled devices, and the growing cloud computing platform, Apple could offer a new social network, similar to Facebook only more in depth. Users could locate each other, share photos with each other instantly of different places, and even report traffic jams to friends driving the same route.

Apple has always led the field, no matter what product they release. There are many different products that Apple could potentially offer, all based off the strength of their previous products released. No matter what it is, it will be exciting and change the industry.

Rest my case. Not an oversized iPod Touch true, but “something of a failure” as Jobs once put it. Personally the only thing I like about the apple TV is the screensaver feat., and for that I rather keep my TV off than acquire such a useless thing.
